Why this Story
This family-friendly, fantasy film provides audiences a dynamic visual that is rarely seen. Not only does it provide representation for an often overlooked demographic, but it also challenges the idea that women of a certain age or background are not imaginative, relevant or interesting.
Seeing oneself represented in media can have a positive impact on self-esteem and mental health. This is especially true for marginalized communities who have historically been underrepresented or misrepresented in mainstream media. By providing representation in the fantasy genre, this film empowers this demographic to see themselves portrayed in a manner that is light-hearted, intriguing, wholesome and fun.
The importance of filmmaking through the lens of an African-American woman writer, director and composer cannot be overstated. This film is a heartwarming reminder that women of all ages and ethnicities have a story to tell and deserve to be seen on the big screen in a wide variety of genres.

Inspirational stories and media with a message are what hooked me as a child and I want those stories to continue to be told. As an actress, an artist, a woman and a woman of color, it's of paramount importance that I be part of stories that explore my full humanity, the fullness of my femininity, my love and my full compassion for us all.
